The old Moonlight had mentioned winking to Ray when Ray asked Moonlight if he had any regrets. The full speech, one of the alltime great movie speeches, and wonderfully delivered by Burt Lancaster, is: 'I never got to bat in the major leagues. I would have liked to have had that chance. Just once. To stare down a big league pitcher. To stare him down, and just as he goes into his windup, wink. Make him think you know something he doesn't. That's what I wish for. Chance to squint at a sky so blue that it hurts your eyes just to look at it. To feel the tingling in your arm as you connect with the ball. To run the bases--stretch a double into a triple, and flop face-first into third, wrap your arms around the bag. That's my wish, Ray Kinsella. That's my wish. And is there enough magic out there in the moonlight to make this dream come true?'

Answer: (to Archie) "Watch out you don't get killed."

The umpire's warning is classic baseball, as is Joe's advice: "He's not gonna want to walk ya and load the bases, so look for 'low and away' (pause) but watch out for 'in your ear'."

Interesting side note, since Archie's turn at the plate results in a sacrifice fly, his stats would still not reflect an official time 'at bat'.

Robinson also wrote the screenplay for the film. W.P. Kinsella wrote the book on which the film was based. The Gordons helped produce the film.

Ray stayed true to his 60's roots and drove the VW Bus from Iowa to Boston to Minnesota, then back again to Iowa.

One thing Ray had always regretted was telling his dad that he would not play catch with him. In an emotional scene, Ray asks him if he would like to play catch. His father, John Kinsella, states that he would like that.

The field has been preserved in its orignal pristine conditon, and can be visited for free from April to November. It is located at the Lansing family farm in Dyersville, which is 25 miles West of Dubuque.

Ray's father, John, spent a few years playing semi-pro and Minor League ball in the mid-west but never made it to the Bigs. His favorite team was always the New York Yankees (a reason why Ray was a Brooklyn fan). John Kinsella is the only player on the field who never played in the Major Leagues.
